Samuel es hijo de Sarah Chatto, quien a su vez es hija de la princesa Margarita, hermana de la reina, por lo que Chatto vendría a ser primo lejano del príncipe Harry y del príncipe William.
El joven tiene 23 años y un perfil bastante activo en redes sociales como Instagram, donde comparte gran parte de su quehacer. Si bien ha tomado decisiones poco convencionales, aún cultiva un perfil a la vieja usanza de las tradiciones.

I couldn"t remember the way I felt there or the things I had achieved ~ despite being so present and alive the whole time I was there ~ I knew something had shifted in me but I couldn"t pin it down to come to terms with it. but last night I woke up at 2:44 with emilia"s face smiling vividly at me, her arms beckoning me to join her dancing. I was surrounded by everyone, and we were dancing, like we did in the evenings, to the sweet happy indian pop music. I lay in bed feeling immense joy and complete and utter grief. it is hard to put into words ~ and I pride myself on being able to put things into words ~ how special and life changing my month at rishikesh was. my mind has finally caught up with my body and all day my heart has been breaking and blooming for the connections that I shared, the support and love I was constantly surrounded by, the things my body and mind achieved and the rest my soul seemed to find. it"s funny how even though I"m grateful for the experience that happened ~past tense~ I also feel angry and am grieving that it is over and I will never experience it again. I know I am so lucky, I know it was a blessing, and I always knew it was only a month, but for some reason my body thinks it"s time to mourn it"s passing ~ in the joyful way that you can mourn, with a heart bursting with sweet memories ~ and if I learnt anything from rishikesh it was to listen to my body above all else. thank you, with every ounce of my being, to everyone who shared such a dreamlike month with me. Y pese a que la figura de Sophie puede ser controvertida, al parecer ni la princesa Margarita ni Sarah Chatto tienen problemas al respecto.
Recordemos que Sarah tiene una personalidad bastante relajada. Pintora de profesión, siempre ha estado ligada al arte, incluso cuando conoció a su esposo, el artista y actor Daniel Chatto. He ahí la veta artística del propio Sam.
Su abuela, la princesa Margarita, en tanto, fue conocida por tener una personalidad bastante rebelde en su juventud, enamorándose de quien no debía, lo que incluso la llevó a molestarse profundamente con su hermana, la reina Isabel, luego que ésta no la dejara casarse con el coronel Peter Townsend.
Esta relación supuso un gran escándalo en la década de los 50, pues pese al amor que se profesaban, era prácticamente imposible que el romance pudiese transformarse en matrimonio debido a que él era divorciado.
