Hace unos días, Benjamin Melzer se convirtió en el primero hombre transgénero en aparecer en la portada de la revista Men’s Health, en Europa.
El modelo fitness de 29 años, oriundo de una pequeña villa a las afueras de la ciudad de Dusseldorf, Alemania, es actualmente el primer hombre trans en ocupar la portada de la edición alemana de la famosa revista Men’s Health.

Benjamin fue escogido luego que un determinado grupo de lectores votara en una encuesta en línea.
En cuanto a las apariencias, Melzer luce igual que miles de hombres que han aparecido en la portada de esta revista fitness alrededor del mundo. Al parecer un cuerpo tonificado y unos abdominales de acero son todo lo que importa.

Nacido como Yvonne, Ben señala que él siempre supo que no era igual a otros niños, pero aún así su infancia “no estuvo mal. Fue feliz”.
No obstante, su cuerpo comenzó a desarrollarse durante la pubertad, él comenzó a sentirse cada vez más confundido. Cuando cumplió 18, empezó a explorar la posibilidad de que fuera transgénero y a averiguar lo que implicaba la transición de género.

Seis años más tarde, en 2011, se sometió a una mastectomía doble y a una histerectomía, antes de ir por la cirugía de reasignación de género total en 2012.

Pese a que nunca quiso tener un cuerpo al estilo de los hombres que modelan para la revista en cuestión, luego de la mastectomía comenzó a ejercitarse para acabar con el exceso de piel en su pecho. “Es tu propia responsabilidad hacer ejercicio, trabajar tus músculos pectorales“, indicó, agregando: “Luego de mi cirugía final, comencé a ir al gimnasio y a entrenar muy duro“.

Benjamin, espera aprovechar la popularidad de este nuevo logro y la plataforma que le ofrece, para ayudar a otros que estén pasando por una experiencia similar, pues él sufrió bastante. “No había nadie ahí afuera para responder mis preguntas cuando lo necesité“, comentó.
“No había un héroe a quien admirar. Sin embargo, cuando terminé mi transición, pensé: ‘¿Por qué no puedes ser un héroe para alguien más?’ Así que eso es lo que estoy buscando. Si puedo llegar a una sola persona, estaré más que feliz“, remató el modelo.
